![]() The O'Reillys part number for that battery is "Miata"!. So, when she was stranded one morning near here work and had to be jump started in a grocery store parking lot, I purchased a new replacement battery outright to enable a change out after work that day. ![]() The repetitive nature of the root cause eventually drained the battery to the extent that my Battery Tender could not adequately recharge the battery. The back story was the better half was driving the 05 this summer and kept popping the trunk inadvertently and the truck light was on overnight on several occasions. Perfect fit and decent warranty, as recently experienced with one that was about a year and a half old. I am using the O'Reilly's battery exclusively for my cars and have found to be exactly as described, AGM with vents. Some retailers sell batteries from more than one manufacturer under a single retail house brand name (such as NAPA), or switch manufacturers for a given retail line. This is mandatory (federal requirement) and has to list the battery's manufacturer. To see who actually makes auto/truck batteries, check the hazardous materials sheet for a given battery (usually linked from the websites). ![]() When it died, I switched to the SuperStart since it was cheaper and easily available from O'Reilly's - and the same as the (more expensive) fabled Westco Miata AGM battery (Westco is owned by East Penn).Įast Penn is one of the major battery makers in the US (Johnson Controls is another) and their batteries appear under dozens of names (see previous threads for a (then) complete list of names), as well as their own brand names. Costs about $20 more than the Super Start AGM, pretty much the same specs. For example, last I checked the Marathon battery sold on Amazon had a 1yeat warranty, while the apparently same battery sold by O'Reilly's had a 3 year warranty, but cost about $5 more.įWIW, Bosch does carry an AGM battery (unvented) for the Miata - I used to have one. Obviously, Deka batteries are from East Penn. At least out here, the AAA batteries are from East Penn. I believe the Napa batteries are from East Penn. Marathon batteries - or at least the Miata battery - is a store brand East Penn battery. ![]() WestCo is another brand owned by East Penn. In this case, Super Start is a retail brand name for batteries made by East Penn / Deka. There have been a number of threads on this, with a superabundance of details for those who like that level of information. You'll need to cut the existing venting tube to vent through both ports. At $112 the price was right and the battery hold down fit perfectly. The plus side is Oreilly provides a 3yr direct swap warranty vs the 1yr marathon. Im pretty sure they manufactured by the same company. Luckily Oreilly auto carries an AGM battery that is vented and looks exactly like the marathon images I have seen. ![]() I also looked at bosch but they too only carry an unvented conventional model. At the time writing this, Autozone only carries a convential, unvented model (8AMU1R) for $112. People seem to like the "Marathon AGM" and a fabled "Duralast Gold". The old battery was the wrong size, type and did not have any vents. After my old battery stopped working one day, I started looking for options. ![]()
